“A Few Words” by David Laborier: when the guitar takes the floor

Date:

Some compositions need no words to deliver a powerful message. David Laborier, an artist we discovered thanks to Slash Music, a Luxembourg-based guitarist with a style as precise as it is elegant, offers a remarkable demonstration of this with “A Few Words”, an instrumental track that plays intelligently on the paradox of its own name: not a single syllable, and yet, everything is said. Weaving between contemporary jazz, fusion and pop-jazz, the guitar unfolds harmonically rich structures carried by a melody that breathes, grooves and tells its story with effortless fluidity. The instrument steps beyond its accompanying role to become a voice in its own right, capable of conveying reflection, clarity and emotion with disarming restraint. The official music video, directed by Pieter Seyffert at Adventure Films, perfectly extends this atmosphere with a clean and carefully crafted aesthetic. The result: over 250,000 views, and a sonic and visual statement that asserts itself from the very first bar.

A complete artist, rooted in his homeland and celebrated far beyond its borders

Behind this guitar emerges the portrait of a multi-faceted musician. Composer, arranger and lecturer at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg, David Laborier has been building a demanding and coherent career for many years, shaped record by record, stage by stage. His musical universe, deeply rooted in jazz in all its forms, resonates well beyond the borders of his native country.

His track record speaks to a solid and well-established international recognition. His project “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Band” won the International Songwriting Competition in 2010, while the album “NE:X:T” (2019) earned two nominations at the Independent Music Awards. As an arranger, he collaborated with Gast Waltzing on Angélique Kidjo’s album “SINGS” in 2015, a project that went on to receive a Grammy Award, firmly cementing his talent on the international stage.

On the live front, David Laborier’s schedule reflects a sustained and ambitious level of activity. In 2024, he performed at the Jazz Club Étoile during the Barn Sessions, then in Paris alongside Morgane Ji with the Orchestre National de Jazz Luxembourg. In 2025, he took to the stage of the Philharmonie Luxembourg for the “What A Wonderful World” concert, before appearing in July on the main stage at Kinnekswiss alongside the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, as part of an event bringing together the finest representatives of the Luxembourg pop and rock scene.

His recent news confirms a particularly exciting momentum. His single “It’s Mine” reached the semi-finals of the 2025 International Songwriting Competition, and its music video was selected for a screening at the Luxembourg Music Video Night, a testament to the consistently high standard of his work. With “A Few Words” continuing to reach an ever-growing audience, and new projects already taking shape on the horizon, David Laborier is establishing himself as one of the most compelling figures on the European jazz scene.
